Why I Built MPSS
After more than twenty years as a licensed psychologist working with young people, athletes, parents, and coaches, I noticed the same pattern over and over. Performance wasn't usually limited by talent. It was limited by what happened inside the mind and body under pressure.
MPSS grew from that observation. It combines sport psychology, clinical psychology, mindfulness, neuroscience, and practical coaching into a shared language that coaches, athletes, and parents can actually use together

Patrick McAuliffe, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist, mental performance consultant, and founder of the Mental Performance Support System (MPSS). He earned his doctorate in psychology from Columbia University, Teachers College, and has spent more than twenty years helping children, adolescents, families, coaches, and athletes perform at their best under pressure.
Throughout his career, Patrick has worked as both a school psychologist and private practice clinician, integrating evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-based interventions. His work has always centered on helping people develop practical skills rather than simply understanding problems.
MPSS grew from the realization that athletes, coaches, and parents needed a common language for handling pressure. By combining principles from sport psychology, clinical psychology, neuroscience, and performance science, Patrick developed a practical system that helps athletes regulate emotion, direct attention, recover from mistakes, and perform more consistently when the moment matters most.
Today, Patrick continues to work with athletes, teams, coaches, and families while developing educational resources that make high-quality mental performance training accessible to programs of every size
